| Top highlights What moved the scores Information Technology +1 San Francisco Demand for high-tech manufactured goods strengthened further, with improvements in sales and orders. Why it matters: San Francisco carries the largest IT weight, so this +1 drives IT to the top of the ranking. | Information Technology +1 Boston A majority of technology respondents are beginning to see improving demand for software. Why it matters: Boston is a large IT district; together with San Francisco it turns the sector positive. | Industrials +1 Philadelphia, Richmond Manufacturers reported moderate gains; Richmond shipments grew more rapidly and new orders increased substantially. Why it matters: The first positive Industrials readings in months, partly offsetting weakness in the west. | Industrials −1 San Francisco, Dallas, Kansas City, St. Louis Aerospace weakness spreading to aircraft and parts employment; Kansas City factory activity declined again. Why it matters: Heavy-weight districts negative keep Industrials below zero. | Consumer Discretionary +1 Boston, Philadelphia, Richmond, Atlanta Retail sales improved in early 2002, above year-earlier levels in several districts. Why it matters: Four positive readings lift Discretionary into positive territory for the first time since 2000. | Financials −1 New York, San Francisco Loan demand receded, standards tightened further, and stricter terms priced some businesses out. Why it matters: New York's heavy Financials weight keeps the sector near neutral despite St. Louis and Chicago gains. |

| How to read this. Each Fed district’s report is scored −2 (strong contraction) to +2 (strong expansion) for each GICS sector, then weighted by the district’s share of that sector’s activity. The Prospect Score blends current conditions (25%), district outlooks (35%), momentum (20%), a sector-specific macro tilt (10%) and margin pressure (10%).
